If you smell gas, treat it as a potential emergency.
What To Do
Evacuate everyone from the apartment or building immediately.
Keep others a safe distance away from the area.
From a safe location, call 911 and Duke Energy at 800-634-4300 to report the gas odor.
Notify your property manager once you are safely outside.
What NOT To Do
Do not operate electrical devices that could create a spark, including:
Cell phones
Light switches
Matches or lighters
Do not operate any gas or pipeline equipment.
Do not start or stop vehicles or machinery near the area.
Do not re-enter the building until it has been declared safe by emergency personnel or a Duke Energy representative.
